After reading more of chapter 1, I found that Said used this chapter to highlight political figures and completely breakdown their false assumptions about the orient. Said’s sarcastic writing style is shinning and makes the reader wonder if he is agreeing with these political figures or not. This makes the reading challenging because it is difficult to tell what side he is supporting. While reading more of his work it helps me understand why he decided to start off the book criticizing a political figure and his messages of ignorance from the west about the orient. I think that once we go over his writing in class it will become a little bit more clearer because I will hear different interpretations and ideas.
